RO-Wine is the most important wine festival of Romania: The first edition took place on 21st and 22nd May at Fratelli Studios, and brought together over 60 wine producers from Romania, Italy, France, Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Moldavia, with a selection of high-quality wines.
During this two-day event, visitors had the chance to taste almost 300 wine labels.
The Ro-Wine | Romanian Wine Festival came about from the desire to make consumers familiar with the best wines, and after tasting, visitors were asked to vote the wine they liked best.
The weekend ended with the award ceremony, during which the tasting committee bestowed gold, silver and bronze medals of RO-Wine.
The final results can be seen on the website of the festival (http://www.romaniawinefestival.com/).
But which wines were most voted by the consumers?
Gattavecchi, Riserva dei Padri Serviti Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2012 won the 3rd prize; Scriani, the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2011 came second, while the winner was the Merlot 2007 Cantina Elite Wine, from Romania.
The producers who participated at the festival were selected on an extremely rigorous, invitation-only basis.
Each producer could present a maximum of 5 labels, thus underlining the quality standards.
“This first edition of the festival demonstrates that we are on the right path towards the promotion of Romanian wines. The large number of Romanian and international producers who accepted our invitation and the interest shown by the visitors with regard to the request for precise information prove that we have made an important initial step towards a product that has been in third place in Europe for the last 20 years”, according to Marinela Ardelean, the president of RO-Wine|The Wine Festival of Romania.
