Preview of the 2017 Viticulture Protocol

protocollo viticolo 2017

Safeguarding the territory, eliminating chemical weed killers

The Viticulture Protocol is a document endorsed by a commission of experts (directed by the Consortium for the protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG), to promote and safeguard the Conegliano Valdobbiadene territory, addressing and monitoring the use of plant protection products, favoring the use of methods that are more compatible and sustainable on the health and environmental front.

A document that, this year, has been updated in partnership with CREA (Council for Research and Experimentation in Agriculture) and ARPAV (Agency for Environmental Prevention and Protection of Veneto)

The Consortium for the protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG has already anticipated the 2017 Viticulture Protocol content.

The update to the Viticulture Protocol identifies, for the treatment of the soil, the best strategy for caring for the health of the vineyard.

“In the 2017 edition of our Viticulture Protocol the table of weed killer products will no longer appear – says Innocente Nardi, President of the Consortium for the protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG – as the road that we want to indicate for vineyards is that of an integrated approach to soil management”.

In the 2017 Viticulture Protocol, particular attention has been given to the subject of chemical agents, insomuch as they are substances to be eliminated.

“This year the subject of chemical substances, in particular those based on glyphosates, is inevitable – continues Innocente Nardi – The European Union will definitively ban them by 2018 and the municipalities in the Conegliano zone prohibit their use.
