Milano Film Festival, the 21st edition in September

Milano Film Festival

The independent cinema festival of the city of Milano returns to shine its lights on the capital city of the region of Lombardy.

From 8 to 18 September 2016, the 21st edition of the Milano Film Festival will take the stage.

Inaugurated in 1995 by esterni, a cultural organisation that intended to create a festival that focussed on emerging Italian cinema and more, that would celebrate the works of independent directors active in Milan, like Gabriele Salvatores, Silvio Soldini, Gianluca Fumagalli, and Alina Marazzi, over the years and editions it has grown to become a worldly appointment in the datebooks of the Milanese, as well as a talent scout for sector professionals.

Once again, Milano Film Festival has the objective of promoting cinema in a different way: It does not intend to cater to spectators comfortably seated in armchairs, but is instead an opportunity for cultural exchange and socializing. A desire of the production company, esterni, which has always been involved in urban regeneration strategies and the promotion of public spaces. So the 2016 edition of the Milano Film Festival will once again leave the cinemas and viewing halls to invade the city by organising showings, workshops, meetings, competitions, and much more in squares, parks, theatres, film libraries and such, breathing life into an open event where people can gather and interact.

The 2015 edition, which celebrated the twentieth year of the event, acknowledged, among others, Lamb by Yared Zeleke as Best Full-Length Film, La Rapas Dominical by Céline Devaux as Best Short, and presented the Aprile Award, in recognition of the film that best represents the soul of the festival, to Our City by Maria Tarantino.
